Annual NABA Butterfly Counts!
Butterfly counts symbolize our commitment to community science and is action our members take to protect butterfly populations.
Butterfly counts have occurred for decades; enabling scientists and researchers the ability to analyze data collected to determine best course of actions to take to protect butterfly species. The Butterfly Count Program began in 1975 by the Xerces Society. Our national organization, North American Butterfly Association, has run the Program since 1993 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
A count consists of a compilation of all butterfly species and individuals observed within a 15-mile diameter count circle in a one-day period. Year over year comparison of the data collected continues to be critical to monitoring changes in butterfly populations and provides the ability to study the effects of habitat loss, weather changes and pesticide use on Arizona's butterflies.
Join us for a day of fun and education! Butterfly counts are open to everyone and no experience is necessary.
