BENA is pleased to announce Denise Gibbs, Monarch Conservation Specialist and BENA co-founder and board member will be our speaker for our February Zoom meeting. This event is free and open to everyone! A Zoom registration link will be provided closer to the event.
About the Presentation
The Chincoteague Monarch Monitoring Project was led by Denise Gibbs. Denise was the primary researcher, with the guidance of the renowned late Monarch butterfly scientist, Dr. Lincoln Brower, and the support of the World Wildlife Fund. This citizen science project to study the Fall Monarch migration was conducted on Assateague Island (a barrier island off the Maryland/Virginia coast) from 1997-2017.
In this presentation, Denise Gibbs will highlight the discoveries made during the study. Denise and her team of research assistants monitored and tagged Fall-migrating and roosting monarchs with the cooperation of NPS staff at Assateague Island National Seashore and USFWS staff at Chincoteague National…
