About the event

Let’s get ready for BENA’s upcoming community science project, the Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon Butterfly Count! This field trip is limited to seven participants. BENA members and Butterfly Count participants will be given registration priority.

Join Becky Hardy for this 'scouting' butterfly field trip, where she will explain what scouting is, as well as share tips about how to ID butterflies for the upcoming butterfly count.

We will walk approximately 1 mile or so on mostly flat trails, on this historic site with grassy fields, old orchards and riparian habitat. This is a great opportunity to observe some of our high elevation species. Possible species include: Silvery Blue, Brown Elfin, Sagebrush Checkerspot, Field Crescent, Northern Cloudywing, Rocky Mountain Duskywing.

Bring the following: binoculars and/or camera, hat, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, hydration and a snack.

No restrooms are available and carpooling is required. We will meet at a designated location in the canyon…
