Be a part of an international community science event!

Time & Location
Jul 28, 2025, 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Coconino County, Marshall Lake, Arizona 86001, USA
About the event
Join Denise & Rob Gibbs to survey milkweed patches in meadows to count Monarch eggs, caterpillars, adults or milkweed plants. Sightings data will be reported to Western Monarch Milkweed Mapper and the Southwest Monarch Study. The information collected by citizen science observers helps researchers identify priority areas for Monarch conservation actions. We will be watching for other butterflies as well-- last year on this date we saw a Colorado Hairstreak basking in the sun. To join one or both of the sessions, BENA membership is required.
Session 1: Marshall Lake starts at 10:30 a.m.
Session 2: Mormon Lake starts at 12:30 p.m.
Please note, both locations are near Flagstaff.
BYO binoculars, field gear, and food/drink for lunch break. Please RSVP Denise at Monarchtagger@gmail.com to receive meeting place locations, directions, and last-minute updates.
Raindate is Friday, August 1st.
